GRAHAM
MASSEY / 808 STATE State Of Independence
Interview
with Graham Massey
When Graham Massey dropped us an email to say
he liked the site, we couldn’t let the opportunity
of an interview go. Not only did he accept, but he’s
given us an almost down-to-the-minute run down of his
career from way before 808 State. From his days working
as a sound engineer for the Broadwalk in Manchester
to spending too much time at the Hacienda, the explosion
of the Acid House movement, working with Björk
and Bernard Summer, and how Prebuild came about,
this is, dare we say, essential reading. So, get yourself
a large drink, put your arse on your most comfy chair,
and enjoy!

Great Expectations
Interview with Chris Leary
Chris Leary is undoubtedly one of the most promising
young talent of the British electronic scene of today.
After propagating his music via the Internet for some
years, he has, in the last couple of years, started
to get more noticed. In recent months, his work has
appeared on countless compilations, and after months
of wait, his first album, A Midsummer Nice Dream,
is finally about to be released. We took the opportunity
to ask him about his journey so far and what are his
plans for the future.
THE 2004 REVIEW
After twelve months spent listening to more
music than humanly possible, this is this time of the
year again. It seems like yesterday when we were crowning
Animal Collective’s Campfire Songs as
album of the year, but as the proverb says, time flies
when you’re having fun. And fun was had this year
again. So much so that we nearly forgot to put together
this list for you. Fear not though, it is as exhaustive
as we want it to be.
It was the Nordic Year for us, with no less than eight
Scandinavian acts in our top 20, and let's face, only
a handful of British artists.
2004 has been our most successful year to date, with
our readership now well over 50,000 per month, but let’s
not stop there… here’s to 2005!
