Over the last few years, Ibiza has become a commercial peak in the dance calendar, as well as THE place to be seen for partygoers. So, the re-release of a record stamped “big in Ibiza” is usually rather suspicious.  In the case of Afterlife though, it is justified. When the critically acclaimed, and wonderfully sun-drenched Simplicity was released at the end of 1999, it was like summer was back for a moment. This album was, and is, a festival of flamenco guitars, chilled breezy beats and beautiful vocals. Hed Kandi are now releasing Simplicity Two Thousand, a box set including Simplicity, together with a second album filled with remixes and unreleased songs. Makes Me Feel, Falling or Lo Delta are three new stunning tracks, diving deeper in Afterlife’s Mediterranean chill-out mood. But the highlights of this second part are most definitely Breather 2000, or even more, Show You Something (Balearic Beats Mix). Chris Coco infuses a groovy bass line into this song, and the end result is even better than the original. Simplicity Two Thousand is a truly essential album, that will make summer last all winter, and beyond.

Hed Kandi is one the most interresting new label to emerge in recent months. Already responsible for the Nu Cool 3 and Served Chilled compilations, they're now bringing they're own breed of artists. Afterlife already featured on Café Del Mar 6, and now offer a full length album, overflowing with generous vocals, luscious ambiances complete with spanish style guitares and very jazz like trumpets on tracks like the magnificent Never Before of the beautiful Blue Bar. Sometimes flurting with light D'n'B, the tracks linger more towards nice ambiant with a touch of latin jazz. This is chill out music at its very best. Ideal to unwind after a bad day at work, as well as when coming back from clubbing. Afterlife have a lot to offer, and they're not scared to show off.
