Words
& Beats... This is a good description of Anthea's album released
by Hed Kandi this month. This young lady likes to play with different styles:
jazz, drum 'n' bass, pop, soul, nothing stands in her way and she adapts
quite well to everything, and she reshapes everything to her own advantage.
It turns out to be one of these completly unexpected groovy experiences,
the kind that makes you thing that there's a God somewhere, and that he
wants you to have a glimpse of heaven, a kind of preview of bliss.
Funky and reflective at
the same time, Ms Anthea Clarke writes all the songs with her mate Chris
Bangs, who also coproduces the album. She's even got the chick to covers
Don't
Explain, originally sung by Billie Holiday, and she does it quite well
too.
Though not quite as impressive
as Afterlife's album, this Hed Kandi little number will probably find a
place on any good CD collection, somewhere not far away from Nicolette.
