Album
seminal of the 90's, Happiness is about ten years old and still seems so
modern. With this album, The Beloved stormed out on the indie/dance scene
with the likes of the Happy Mondays, The Stone Roses or The Shamen. Although
definitely more dance orientated and with a more electronic sounds, they
managed to create a distinctive soun. With a string of hits, now classics,
such as Sun Rising, Hello or Up UP And Away, they
went on their very own way, at their own pace only releasing 2 albums since
Happines, with a slight change of personel in the process, John Marsh getting
rid of his mate and giving the job to Helena , his wife.
The following records will
be as successful, if not as important, with hits like Sweet Harmony
or Satellite, and they have now a strong fan base. John Marsh is
also a well respected DJ and produced some fine underground club tracks,
amongst which Crystal Wave, first released as a white label, and
eventually endding up on their latest studio album, X.
