The first release from Hed Kandi to hit the shops this year, Disco Kandi 3 is, according to Mark Doyle, the most commercial album the label has released. However, the man has remained terribly ruthless with his selection, and the twenty-four titles that compose Disco Kandi 3 are all of a very high standard.
Right from the first bars of First Choice’s The Player, Doyle injects some real disco credential in your speakers. Digging deep in the Defected Records catalogue, as he presents no less than six tracks from the label, he also goes fishing around for some good Kandi night fever. Ann Nesby’s Lovin’ Is Really My Game or Romain & Danny Krivit’s Philly Groove send you right back to 1977, while Solar Sides’ Suite 56, Love Rush’s Same Ol’ Thing or Cleptomaniacs’ All I Do all have a definite 2000 sound. The second CD even has a Brazilian feel, with a sequence of three sunshin-esque floor-fillers (Afro Medusa’s Pasilda, Légo’s When I’m With You and Tanga Chicks’ Brasil Over Zurich). And then, there are the big guns. A.T.F.C Present Onephatdeeva’s enormous Bad Habit, Joey Negro’s classy Do U Love What U Feel, the massive Alan Braxe & Fred Falke Intro, or the Tamperer remix of Gusto’s Disco Revenge, which will probably send crowds around the world mad this summer. But where Disco Kandi 3 really hits the G-spot big time is when Doyle lines up the three best tracks of the series in a row, starting with Satoshi Tomiie’s killer remix of Lolleatta Holloway’s 1976 classic Dreamin’, it is then the turn of Jazzy M’s Jazzin’ The Way You Know and Groove Junkies’ Music Is Life to rock the stratosphere. There is enough power in any of these three tracks to supply the UK with electricity for ten years.
Once again, Hed Kandi collects, for Disco Kandi 3, the best music around, leaving the listener with the urge to go and sweat out on a dance floor.
