Two
years after astonishing the world by co-producing an album with electronicist
William Orbit, Madonna does it again. Music was recorded during
her second pregnancy, and the sound is more perfect, more extreme than
ever. Partly produced by French electro wizard Mirwais Ahmadzai and William
Orbit, Madonna offers once more a completely new side of her multiple musical
personality. The eponymous single has already toped every single chart
in the world, and the album is set to follow the same path. Not so much
because it is Madonna, but simply because it is her best album to date.
Music
is a very ambitious album, and a very risky one too. It probably will disconcert
a few fans of the first hour, but they’ve grown used to her constant reinventions.
Ray Of Light was a reflective record, the work of a calmer woman, more balanced, more serene. Music is quite different in that matter. It is a radiant record, more upbeat, more adventurous than its predecessor. Every track is a gem. The remarkable Impressive Instant, which sees her voice tortured like never before, or the magnificent I Deserve It, Paradise (Not For Me) or Gone.
Where she sometimes lost track of her goals in the past, she now focuses on what she wants to achieve, and does let other people take control, drive her. Mirwais Ahmadzai often said in interviews over the last few months how surprised he was to find Madonna giving up songs he wanted to use on his own album, just because she thought they were as well suited to him.
