Formed in Brighton at the end of 1999, this experimental psycho post-rock all-girl band blends ice and fire into a magmatic series of instrumental tracks.

FORT LAUDERDALE - Time Is Of The Essence
For this second album, Fort Lauderdale have widened their sonic spaces to incredible extend. Time Is Of The Essence is distinguished and perverse. Quintessentially British!

HIS NAME IS ALIVE - Someday My Blues Will Cover The Earth
As Hudini was a master of escapism, Warren Defever is a master at renewing himself. For this sixth studio album, the man leaves behind his twisted rock to explore RnB. But far from the commercial end of the genre, there are jazz lights and blue souls.

PRAM - Somniloquy
Formed in Birmingham over ten years ago, Pram have gained, over the years, a faithful following. This new album, part-compilation part-remix project, displays more than ever the carachteristics of this very special band.

SOULO - Soulo
Soulo's background is classic. Two guys meet at art school, suffer from the limitations of rock, and start experimentating with electronic music. The way Soulo mixe their early influences with their more recent experiences is rather interesting though...

V/A - Live Sets At Ego 1998-2000
Düsseldorf-based art-house Ego only existed for a couple of years, during which the cream of electronic musicians played live sets. Half club half art gallery Ego was bound to attract the more challenging artists, and this testimonial compilation is a celebration of electronic music.

CLOUDDEAD - Clouddead
Experimentation in hip-hop is not dead. Dark sarcasm and atmospheric ambiences inhabit this highly unusual and uncompromising album, as the trio put their audience to the test. Essential.

310 - After All
Although Joseph Dierker lives in Seattle and Tim Donovan in New York, and they compose by sending each other tapes across the American continent, their sound is surprisingly coherent and strong.

Four years after its release, Substrata remains one of the finest ambient records ever released. Touch re-releases it with the soundtrack for the 1929 Russian film Man With A Movie Camera, commissioned by the Tromso International Film Festival.

NEOTROPIC - La Prochaine Fois
La Prochaine Fois, third album by Neotropic, is also the soundtrack of Riz Malsen's eponymous road movie. As Maslen integrates the diverse influences, sounds and images collected during her travelling, she composes an emotional and beautiful piece of work.

OVUCA - Wasted Sunday
The precocious and prolific Aleksi Perälä releases his third album in three years. Leaving behind his drill'n'bass influences, Perälä now gives more space to his sonic structures.

PLAID - Double Figure
Double Figure is Plaid's more accessible record to date. It is quite ironic though that it only reveals itself bit by bit, as if Ed Handley and Andy Turner were throwing loads of happy melodies in this album, just to confuse their audience.

SLAG BOOM VAN LOON - So Soon
The project put together by Mike Paradinas (µ-Ziq) and Jochem Paap (Speedy J) gets a serious reworking. A horde of talented electronic musicians, from Boards Of Canada to Four Tet and Matmos get their hands on the tracks from Slag Boom Van Loon and recreate them.

SQUAREPUSHER - Go Plastic
A year and a half after he released Selection Sixteen, Tom Jenkinson reactivates his Pusher machine. Those who hoped for a quieter experience will be disappointed. Go Plastic is as fierce as its predecessors. Squarepusher is back, and it is just like old times.

FOUR TET - Pause
When one Third of post-rock experimentalist Firdge Kieran Hebden goes to play on his own, Four Tet is the result, and Pause, his second solo album, is at once charming and intelligent.

MATMOS - A Chance To Cut Is A Chance To Cure
San Francisco based duo Matmos have produce one hell of a strange record. Their fourth opus is almost entirely made up of sounds recording during surgery, such as liposuction, rhinoplasty, eye laser treatment. Revolting? Definitely not!

MONOMORPH - Departure Can Wait
The D'Archangelo brothers, official leaders of the Italian electronic scene, follow up their album Shipwreck with an equally brilliant piece of electronica. Phat funky beats, textural grooves and voice samples demonstrate the ability of the pair to construct intricate soundscapes.

ORBITAL - The Altogether
The Hartnoll brothers are back with their sixth album in almost ten years. As one of the bands to have shaped the early nineties, Orbital have survived rather well and The Altogether proves that it is business as usual.

PREFUSE 73 - Vocal Studies & Uprock Narratives
Of the three of Scott Herren's projects, Prefuse 73, his latest, is definitely the most exiting. With Vocal Studies & Uprock Narratives, the Miami-based musician takes on the challenge of rethinking hip-hop. And he delivers.

TO ROCOCO ROT & I-SOUND - Music Is A Hungry Ghost
Fourth album for the Berlin trio, and, it's just got better. Music Is A Hungry Ghost, a collaboration between To Rococo Rot and New-York DJ I-Sound is a radiant and fascinating record.

05'01

CHRIS CLARK - Clarence Park
Confusion and disorder are instruments to Chris Clark's first album. Ignoring any rule, Clark compiles every single sound he's ever heard into thirty minutes of total chaos. Welcome to Clarence Park.

BURNT FRIEDMAN - Burnt Friedman Plays Love Songs
Cologne-based musician Berndt Friedmann has had many projects on the go for the last few years. His new album's title is slightly misleading indeed, as the love songs he plays are all rather disturbing.

JUJU - Tribology
Fuelled with jazz, funk, and blues, the second opus by Croydon-based Juju is an infernal groove machine, as electrifying as their live performances.

MANITOBA - Start Breaking My Heart
Classically trained Canadian Dan Snaith presents his first album. Start Breaking My Heart is set between Boards Of Canada, Squarepusher and Miles Davies. And the result is somehow very interesting.

THREE NORMAL HUMANS - Weekend At Bellevue
Don Shacknai, singer with New York band Three Normal Humans, contacted us a few weeks ago, to ask if we'd review his band's first album. Although it is somewhat different from what we usually write about, we liked it so much we decided we would talk about it anyway!

03'01
LEAFCUTTER JOHN - Microcontact
Microcontact is a complex, yet surprisingly appealing record. Leafcutter John has only started fiddling with computers recently, but he already shows a rare dexterity and creativity, with both his machines and his human inputs.

BLACWORLD - Subduing Demons (In South Yorkshire)
Richard H Kirk continues his adventures in electronic music with Subduing Demons, following his previous Darkness At Noon and Loopstatic albums. This third in the series, based on short wave radio and voice manipulation, is another astonishing record. Kirk rewrites, once again, the rule book.

Chicago must be a grim place to live, if you listen to Tortoise. This album, ranging from raging guitars to fiddly electronic is their best one yet, and not that grim either, after all.

V/A - No Watches. No Maps
In the good old days, when Fat-Cat was a record shop, in the heart of Covent Garden, in London, they used to promote any interesting artist who would drop a demo over the counter. Today, Fat-Cat is a forward-looking record label, and they receive thousands of demos. No Watches. No Maps is the result.

02'01

Only a few months after releasing his first album, the man behind Arovane comes back with Tides, a record with a different atmosphere, calmer, more aquatic, and equally as good.

ANTONELLI ELECTR - Click
Conceived as a view into the future, Click tends to look back into the early house and acid scene, and Antonelli Elector unfortunately takes the risk of being pushed aside by the true creators of today.

GIMMIK - Slow Motion Process
