The
strength of every Underworld album so far has been the alternance between
massive beats and more down tempo tracks. That way, their quite monotonous
heavy stadium dance songs have always managed to keep a certain charm.
Everything, Everything
showcases what Underworld is live. But if all these tunes, with their pumping
beats and shouted lyrics are great when you’re physically watching the
band on stage, the magic wears off after the first track once put on vinyl.
Underworld seems to completely obliterate their more subtle songs once
on stage. And it doesn’t transpose at all. Everything, Everything
is a very strenuous and demanding record, and it doesn’t manage to capture
the mind of the listener, being to uniform. Even Born Slippy Nuxx,
which is a fantastic track on its own, and made available for the first
time on an album here, is wasted. The only track the band actually manages
to rescue is Rez.
For a great Underworld experience,
try any of their studio albums, but avoid this one at all cost.
