BACK IN THE STUDIO

Following
two years of intense touring, Goldfrapp
are back in the studio to record the follow up to last
year’s Black
Cherry. Early reports indicates that the as yet
untitled album, which is not due out until next summer,
is ‘a typically Goldfrapp
move forward whilst retaining the glam and atmospherics
which they have made their own’. Legendary producer
Mike ‘Spike’ Stent, who has previously worked
with the likes of Björk,
Massive Attack
and Madonna, is set to join the band for the mixing of
the album. |

NEW
EP AND ALBUM FOR A GUY CALLED GERALD

One
of the legendary figure of dance music, A Guy Called Gerald
is set to follow his 2000 album Essence with
a new EP out before Christmas and a new album on K7! in
the new year. One of the original members of 808
State, A Guy Called Gerald, real name Gerald Simpson,
left the band after the release of their first album and
went on to record the seminal Voodoo Ray. His
new EP, First Try, is set to be released on 6
December, while the album, To All Things What They
Need, which features collaborations with Finley Quaye,
and Ursula Rucker, will be released at the end of January. |

PHONOPHANI
LIVE IN LONDON

Award
–winning Norwegian club Frederik’s Wonderful
Evening is making its London debut this Thursday, 11 November,
at Dreambagjaguarshoes in Shoreditch, E2. Hosted by Datarock
front man Frederik Saroea, FEW began in Bergen, Norway,
in 2002, and the club night received the Radisson SAS/BRAK
award for best promoter in 2004, and the Natt & Dag
Magazine’s (Norway’s equivalent to Time Out
Magazine) Award for best club. For its London debut, Saroea
is bringing with him the cream of the Bergen scene, with
live performance by Phonophani, aka Espen Sommer Eide,
who also officiate as one half of Alog. Phonophani’s
new album, Oak Or Rock, is due out on Rune Grammofon
soon. The event will also see live performances and DJ
sets from Cherubs, Alwynne Pritchard, Pleasure, CompactDiscJockey,
Ben Goldacre and Mikal Telle. For more information on

IDEASFACTORY:
SOUND CIRCUIT LIVE EVENT IN LONDON

To
celebrate the success of Sound Circuit and provide a showcasing
platform for the culture of electronic sound and vision,
Channel 4's IDEASFACTORY is presenting a night of music,
video, and workshops over three rooms at London's Scala
on Thursday 25 November from 8pm to 2am. IDEASFACTORY:
Sound Circuit is a series of free DJ, VJ, and Circuit
Bending workshops taking place across England throughout
2004. The workshops aim to encourage people to interact
with new technologies through creative applications in
an open and non-critical group environment and introduce
more technically inclined students to artistic ways of
using electronics.
The event will see performances by emerging talents of
the top Sound Circuit participants with established electronic
musicians, VJs and DJs, including DMX Krew, DAT
Politics, Ceephax Acid Crew, Lektrogirl and many more. |
