BJORK
RELEASES DRAWING CONSTRAINT 9 SOUNDTRACK
5 July 2005 |
 |
Icelandic
songstress Björk
has composed the soundtrack for multimedia artist Matthew
Barney’s latest film Drawing Constraint 9.
The film was shot in Nagasaki Bay on board the Japanese
whaling ship Nisshin Maru, and investigates the ‘relationship
between self-imposed resistance and creativity’
through the various phases of creation of a sculpture.
Both Bjork
and Barney appear in the film. The soundtrack for the
film features eleven original compositions, described
as ‘delicate single instrument studies for harp,
harpsichord, and celeste, large orchestral masses scored
for trumpet, trombone, and oboe, sinewy electronic basslines,
children's choir, boiling cauldrons of noise, and, throughout,
[Björk’s]
singular, elemental voice’, with contributions from
Will Oldham, Mark
Bell, throat singer Tagaq, long-term Björk
friends Leila, Valgeir Sigurðsson and Zeena Parkins
to name but a few. The album is due to be released on
25 July. More
details here. |
