The
long-awaited mini-album companion to Prefuse
73’s magnificent Surrounded
By Silence is finally announced for February
2006, although there is no definite date yet. The mini-album,
entitled Security Screening, will feature Scott
Herren’s much talked about collaboration with
Kieran Hebden
and TV On The Radio frontman Tunde Adebimpe, and is said
to be a ‘more instrumental, sound-based and transitional
record in a similar vein to Extinguished Outtakes'.

THE
BATTLES SIGN TO WARP

Warp
Records have just announced that the Battles have signed
with the label. Formed inn 2002 in New York by Ian William
(Don Caballero), John Stainer (Helmet, Tomahawk), David
Konopka (Lynk) and Prefuse
73 collaborator and avant-guard jazz musician Tyondai
Braxton, The Battles have been seen alongside Prefuse
73 during his last US and European tour earlier this
year. The band have already released a handful of EPs,
which are set to be collated, repackaged and released
by Warp in February 2006, with an album of new material
to follow later during the year. |

BENBECULA
ANNOUNCES NEW MINERALS SERIES

Scottish label Benebecula, home of Christ., Prhizzm, Reverbaphon and many more, is launching a new series of releases this December. The Minerals Series will feature twelve full length albums, strictly limited to 100 copies, with a small number of each being reserved for a special package containing all twelve albums plus an extra CD featuring exclusive music. Artists said to be involved in the project, either with full length contributions or compilation appearance include Christ., Colditz, Fence Collective, Frog Pocket, Greenbank, Prhizzm, Reverbaphon and more. Japanese oddball pop songstress Coppe will be celebrating the tenth anniversary of her imprint, Mango & Sweet Rice, with a bumper double album featuring collaborations with Kris Weston, Q Bert, Ryan Breen, Nobukazu Takemura, Samurai Chop, DJ Vadim, Kettel, Mickey The Cat, Dokaka, The Program and many more. The album, due out early next year, will collect thirty-two tracks, some previously unreleased and some new. TO RELEASE NEW HOPE BLISTER ALBUM

Legendary
indie label 4AD will be releasing the second album by
Ivo Watts-Russell’s Hope Blister. The album, set
to be released as a double CD, features Underarms,
a collection of seven songs originally released as a mail
order only album, plus Sideways, which will contains
remixes of all seven songs from Underarms. The
album will be released on 6 December in the US and on
