That’s a good point, but I would argue that, while his music reminds you of others and prevents you from enjoying it, it may also make others investigate these works as a result of listening to Tyondai’s work.

I must say that I’ve always shied away from Zappa, as his work has always seemed much too complex and on a totally different level to what I can ‘cope’ with, but you mentioning these particular works certainly makes me curious.

I understand what you mean though. I have a bit the same thing with the ‘electronic shoegaze’ bands that seem to be everywhere these days. Listening to M83 makes me crave for Slowdive or MBV.

“Central Market” made me dig out “The Perfect Stranger” by Frank Zappa (conducted by Pierre Boulez) and “The Yellow Shark” … it amazes me that no-one seems to have drawn the obvious comparisons there seem to be between them … “Central Market”, like Johnny Greenwood’s “Popcorn Superhet Receiver”, is music I really want to be taken in by, but somehow it just makes me want to listen to the people it reminds me of … I guess everyone has to deal with ghosts, but maybe wearing them on your sleeve is not the best strategy :-)
